Bio

Originally from Winnipeg, Dr. Janet Ip completed her Medicine and Family Practice training at the University of British Columbia. She is a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Department of Family Practice and has been involved in the selection of UBC family practice residents as well as the CCFP license examination for graduating residents nationwide.

Dr. Ip practices as a family physician with special interest and training in dermatology.  She worked for 12 years as an associate at Pacific Derm before bringing her medical dermatology clinic to Cambie Village and her aesthetic practice to Project Skin MD.  A recipient of the BC College of Family Physicians Exceptional Teacher Honour, she teaches UBC family medicine residents in the field of dermatology and in the use of dermoscopy, both as a lecturer and clinician.  She has been invited to speak at dermatology continuing medical education events, including Dermacon, St. Paul’s Hospital CME for Primary Care Physicians and UBC CME on the run.  Particular areas of interest include acne, rosacea, and skin cancers, as well as lasers and injectables.

Dr. Ip’s passion for public health and media has led her to film two documentaries during her rural medical training in Hope and Inuvik, as well as participate in public skin cancer screening clinics held by the Canadian Dermatology Association. She has been a medical consultant for various publications including the Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, Montecristo magazine, Canadian Health, Today’s Parent, and Parents Canada. As both a parent and dog-owner, she respects the work-life balance to a new level.  Favourite hobbies include interior design, wildlife photography, travel, canoeing and tennis.
